English Lavender |
|
True Lavender has a compact habit and is narrow-leaved.
Called English lavender because it it formed
the basis of England's lavender oil industry in the 1700s.
The
foliage is green-grey or grey-green and forms about half the
height of the bush. The flowers appear in
May, June and July and have a rich sweet scent, many
re-blooming throughout the season. The
richly colored English lavender
varieties are excellent for border
planting, potpourri, culinary, and drying on the stalk.
Hardiest of all lavenders, tolerates cold fairly well.
Has sweeter scented flowers than the lavandins because it
contains less camphor. |
